Content Strategy Will Make or Break Your Process – Karen McGrane & Jeff Eaton Video
All too often, projects that seem to otherwise be going swimmingly get swept up in what information architect Karen McGrane describes as the “11th- hour shitstorm”- the confusion and scrambling that results when we don’t account for content strategy in the site building process. Along with developer Jeff Eaton, she explains the issues that arise when we assume content will just flow into the templates and designs created. It is critical that content be a part of the creation methodology from the beginning, that creating more information for visitors to find is as much a priority as wireframes and modules.
User experience is key, and applying the basic principals principles we know about human-centric design can help give information and how it’s processed the place it deserves. By factoring this into pre-planning, task optimization, and above all communication, a beautiful site can have beautiful content without the last-minute chaos state.

Perhaps you mean “basic principles”?
Any chance you could make this video downloadable? Would love to throw it on my iPhone.
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your interest and thrilled you find the video of value. Many people have indicated the same. It’s a 1 hour video and huge file sitting on Vimeo. You can access it anytime. But the file is just too large to move conveniently let alone store it on your iPhone.

Ah, cool. Whereabouts is it on Vimeo?
I’m wrong. (Oh God, does this remain in my permanent record!) We are hosting these on Amazon S3.

Yes. Principles. Thanks.
Video is not accessible for those who cannot hear, speak other languages than English, and learn to read. Ironically, it is also part of improving content strategy as it would boost the SEO of websites.
